Delnor-Wiggins State Park, located on the West Coast of Florida by Naples, is a popular destination for those who enjoy favorite beach activities. From swimming and snorkeling to stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking, there are plenty of popular activities to enjoy. Known as one of the best beaches along the Florida coast, many people from around the United States visit the park throughout the year. Delnor-Wiggins State Park also has an abundance of wildlife to observe in the Gulf and the woodlands.

Located on the Gulf of Mexico, Delnor-Wiggins State park is the perfect place to watch wildlife from the beaches. Throughout the year, you can see the dolphins swimming along the coast while relaxing on the beach. You may also see some loggerhead turtles from June through October. Although the park closes at dark, you may catch a glimpse of them nesting on the soft white beaches right before sunset. The baby sea turtles usually hatch at night as well, but you may get lucky and see a few in the early morning during the summer months.

There is also a coral reef that is home to many species of sea creatures. The hard bottom reef with soft coral is the perfect place to go snorkeling or scuba diving to see subtropical and tropical sea life. While you may view everything below the water, taking sand dollars and shells with live occupants is prohibited. Lobsters and crabs live in the crevasses in the reefs, while barracuda, grouper, jacks, and spadefish frequent the open waters. Nurse sharks are often found in the waters under overhangs and are occasionally even seen in shallow waters along the coast. Watch out for the stingrays; they nest at the edge of the water in the summer.

Wildlife also inhabits the woodlands of the 166-acre state park. There is a few nature trails throughout the park, where you can see migratory birds such as osprey, owls, and eagles. To learn more about the area and it’s wildlife, the park rangers also offer guided wildlife tours throughout the area, or you can hike along the trails to view the wildlife at your own pace.

Whether you are looking for a beautiful beach to relax in the sun or looking for fun outdoor activities, Delnor- Wiggins State Park has it all.
