Are you considering a trip to Delnor-Wiggins state park? If so, we strongly suggest heading during the summer. Not only can you expect fabulous weather (averaging 83 degrees Fahrenheit), you can also participate in numerous summer activities.

If you are concerned that it will be too hot or that you will be rained out, locals will tell you: “come early before the showers and find some shade… whether tree or umbrella, you will be protected from the strong rays, but be able to cool down in the light breeze.”

So, without further ado, let’s dive into why this park is the perfect place to visit.

1. You Can Head to the Beach

Heading to the beach is highly recommended. Delnor-Wiggins State Park offers some of the most beautiful sands along the Mexican Gulf.

Whether you plan on taking in the views or enjoying a bit of rest and relaxation, this is the place to go!

2. Go Canoeing or Kayaking

For the more adventurous among us, canoeing and kayaking might be just the ticket. Or, paddle-boarding may be a better option if you want to try something a little different.

Not only are these activities great fun to participate in, but they offer a perfect solution to exploring the beauty of Water Turkey Bay and the surrounding coves.

Holidaymakers love to follow the mangrove trail, head under the bridges and then through to Wiggins Pass and into the Gulf. Stunning!

3. Try Your Hand at Fishing

If you enjoy fishing, then this park’s the place for you. There’s plenty of places to try and make a catch. Naturally, fishing isn’t allowed in the swimming areas of the park.

However, you can head out in a vessel and fish in any of the following places: the Gulf, Water Turkey Bay or, the Cocohatchee River. Anglers also enjoy fishing from the bountiful shoreline or wading for fish in Water Turkey Bay.

4. Enjoy a Picnic

There’s nothing more restful than enjoying a picnic surrounded by beautiful beach. There are a ton of designated picnic areas across the park, both in the parking lot and the beach.

Plus, there are plenty of grills and tables available. These will certainly come in handy, especially for those who enjoy a summer BBQ!

5. Swimming and Snorkeling

If you’re someone who enjoys being in the water, this is the place to be.

People love to swim and snorkel in the waters toward the southern end of the park. Snorkeling is excellent here because there’s a hard bottom reef that runs parallel to the shore. The views are just divine!
